What are Access Chats?

Access Chats are a space for venues, art organisations and artists to come together to chat about accessibility.

Nice Twice Club works with many organisations across Hull, several shared that it would be useful to have a space for them to come together to learn from each other, share resources and hear from community members with lived experience. Following lots of discussion around what these spaces would look like, “access chats” were created.

Access Chats are a space for venues, art organisations and artists to come together to chat about accessibility. They are spaces for networking, conversations led by people with lived experience about accessibility and there will be opportunities to ask questions.

The agenda is agreed upon at the previous chat with a rough format of starting with introductions, one or two items and finishing on agreeing what to discuss next time.

Chat’s we’ve had so far include, what is coming up in inclusion conversations? what makes a venue feel safe?

The chats are facilitated by Nice Twice Club but the conversations are very much led by the organisations and people with lived experience. We strive to always create a safe, welcoming space for people to have honest and respectful conversations about accessibility and inclusion.

Freedom Festival’s Engagement Producer, Katie attends our Access Chat’s. Katie shared her experience with us -

“If your venue or event wants to improve access and inclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend attending Nice Twice access chats.

These sessions are warm, welcoming spaces for friendly and honest conversations about access. You’ll hear lived experiences directly from people who face access barriers every day — insights that you simply can’t get from guidelines alone.

It’s an important sense check for your venue or event, helping you understand what you’re doing well and where you can do better. Nice Twice access chats give you the chance to ask questions, learn, and make meaningful changes that really matter to disabled people.”
